19th General Knowledge Competition 2009
As an integral part of the “Premier Bank Notre Dame National Science Festival 2009”, the 19th General Knowledge Competition was organized successfully with all our efforts. The competition had 3 major parts which are THE PRELIMINARY ROUND, THE SEMIFINALS and THE FINALS. As usual separate quizzes were organized for the school and college students.
THE PROGRAM AT A GLANCE:
# Preliminary Round:
The preliminary round was held on 17th July. About 35 school teams and 40 college teams took part in the written quiz. 12 teams from each the sections were selected for the semifinals according to merit.
#Semifinals:
Both the junior & senior semifinals were organized on 18th July. Ex NDC Gold members Redwan vai, Rifat vai and Shuhan vai were present as the quizmasters for the junior semifinals. We had Rushafi vai & Ayon vai as the quizmasters in the senior semifinals. There were 4 rounds in both the semifinals: Fixed, Clue, Audio Visual and Quick round.6 teams from each from each criterion succeeded to the finals.
#Finals:
1st August was the day of the finals. The school finale was held in the morning and was participated by the 6 finalist teams which are – SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, Govt Laboratory School, Armanitola School, St Gregory’s School, Dhaka Residential Model College and St Joseph College. Asif vai and Ayon vai were the quizmasters. SOS Hermann Gmeiner won the quiz by achieving 230 points while the runner up St Gregory’s was just 15 points behind.
The college finale started at 3pm and the participating teams were- NDC GOLD, Dhaka College 1, Dhaka College 2, National Ideal College, Dhaka Residential Model College and St Joseph College. Opu vai and Ayon vai were the quizmasters for this grand finale. Two new rounds were added to the quiz format i.e. Link round and our very own creation Suicide round. NDC GOLD snatched the victory scoring a solid 285 points while Saint Joseph College gave a great fight scoring 260.

I must express my gratitude to a few people who put all their flesh and blood to make this program a success. First of all I would like to thank all the quizmasters for their brilliant and sophisticated presentation. Thanks to Rafaat vai (president publication 2004-05) for polishing the splendid scoring software once again. I have to thank Sunny, Irfan, Shakil, Reaz, Pujon and Abir(Members of NDC BLUE & GREEN) for doing the toiling parts of the program. One person I can’t forget to thank is Nirjhar who built a tremendous Buzzer System which gave no trouble at all throughout the whole program!!!
At last I would express my gratefulness to Shushanta Sir and Titas Sir for putting much trust on me and my team that encouraged us a lot.
